Being salesy, looking salesy, or sounding salesy is the easiest way to lose when it comes to selling both offline and online. People hate to be sold to, even though they want to buy, even though they’d buy anyway, they just hate to be sold to.
And if you sound salesy and sleazy, you make them even more uncomfortable to buy from you.
They hate to feel like someone tricked them or made them to buy a particular product, instead of making the buying decision themselves.
They want to feel like they made that decision to buy themselves, not because someone made them buy.
They just want to feel like the whole purchase was their decision, and not you manipulating them with your pushy sales tactics.
If you can make people feel that way, and they buy from you, then you’ve succeeded. Then you’re not salesy, and that’s exactly what I want to show you how to do in this article.
Here’s how to sell without being salesy and sleazy in your approach.
Use searching questions to make them arrive at the decision by themselves
Sometimes, all you got to do to not make yourself sound salesy is to ask searching questions that make the customer arrive at the purchase decision by themselves.
For instance, if you go for a regular check-up in the hospital, after checking you up, your doctor tells you to buy a particular drug, without telling you why you should buy and use it. How willing will you be to buy and use that drug?
On the other hand, if your doctor asks you some very specific searching questions like, do you feel itching in your throat? You say yes.
He asks again, do you find it hard to swallow when you eat? You answer yes.
He asks you a few more questions and they all correspond to what you’re really experiencing. Then he prescribes a particular drug for you to use.
Now, when he prescribes this drug, how willing will you be to use it? You’d rush to buy and use it because he just used simple searching questions to confirm that he knows what you’re going through, and that particular drug is the solution you’re looking for.
From there on, you don’t even need convincing. You make the final decision without any push from him.
That’s how you use searching questions to get people to buy from you.
Don’t pitch them your product right away. Instead, ask them questions that exposes the problem or challenge they’re going through, making them very certain that you are the right person to help them.
Then you simply recommend the product to solve that problem they’re going through.
They’ll buy, and they’ll feel like they made the decision themselves. Not you.
That way, you win, and they win as well.
Show people what you use yourself
One of the oldest tricks in the book to make people feel comfortable buying from you, is to show them that you use that same product yourself.
It works every time.
For instance, I use sever tools to keep this website running. I use Cloudways hosting, I use Kadence Pro Theme, and I use Kadence Pro Gutenberg blocks to design this website. The SEO plugin I use is Rankmath Pro.
These are all tools I use to run this website/blog. Because I use these tools myself, I don’t really have to convince my readers to use them, because I use them myself.
I can simply create a Free simple Tutorial showing them how to build this type of website, and then I use these tools in the tutorial, and recommend they use them as well.
With my affiliate links included, I can make money from it.
I don’t have to be too pushy. I don’t have to be salesy. I don’t have to.
I just recommend what I use, and that’s it.
