Making that elusive first dollar online can be very difficult for some people. Most people go weeks, months, and even years without making a single dollar online, because they’re going about it all wrong. They’re looking in the wrong places.

You see, making that first dollar is very important, because it creates a foundation for you to make more. It shows you that, that dream of making money online is real and that you can do it.

If you can make a dollar online, then you can make 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 10,000 and more. Making that first dollar grows your confidence level, and creates that foundation for you to make more money. It shows you that, that dream of making money online is possible, and that you can do it.

So, how do you go about it? How do you make that elusive first dollar that will grow your confidence to make more?

What Should You Do?

Now here’s what to do. I’m not going to bit round the bush and tell you that there’s some kind of secret system, because there’s none. There’s no secret system. It’s just one word – Sales.

To make that first dollar, find something you can sell, and sell it online. That may sound very obvious, and maybe too simple, but the truth is, most people overthink this making money online thing and they end up not making any money. If you’ve been trying to make money online for some time and you’ve not made any, trust me, you’re overthinking it and trying the wrong things.

Type “how to make money online on Google” and you get funny results like “Take Surveys Online, Test Websites and Apps, Post Affiliate Links here and there” and a whole lot of other garbage info that will just waste your time.

All these while you’ve been completing surveys, watching videos upon videos, posting affiliate links here and there, and making no money. All you had to do was to find something you can sell and sell it online.

The only way to make money online or offline is to sell something. It involves someone giving you money for a product or service you offered them.

Now, let me ask you something, how do you make money offline? You sell something products right? Making money offline physically involves selling products. These products can be physical products like T-shirts, TVs, Laptops, ring lights and so on.

They can also be services. For instance, if you’re an electrician, you can make money by selling your services to people by carrying out electrical projects in their homes or solving their electrical problems.

Making money online is exactly the same thing. If you want to make money online, you need to find something you can sell, and sell it online. If you’re already selling some physical products offline, you can decide to start selling them online as well.

Or if you have certain types of skills, you can start selling those as digital products or offering them as services online. If you’re very good at writing, you can start selling your skills as a writer.

If you’re very good at web design, you can start selling your skills as a web designer. If you’re an electrician or a plumber, you can start promoting your services online as a plumber and getting more clients.

How To Sell Anything Online

Now the question most people want to know the answer to is, “How do I start selling?”. How do I start selling products or services online, how do I go about it?

Well, let me tell you something. Most people still overthink this, and overthinking it cripples all their efforts to sell.

There are two main ways you can sell products online. One is through paid advertising, which involves spending money on online ads, to advertise the product you want to sell. You can use Facebook ads, Google ads, Pinterest ads and even TikTok ads to advertise your products. This will be ideal for you if you have a large budget and you’re not worried about losing some money at first to test the ads and the market.

For someone just trying to make money online at first, this will likely not be an option for you since you may not have the budget. I also don’t advise that you use ads at first because the second method I’m about to show you is far better and it’s more sustainable in the long run. And you can decide to use ads later on to compliment it and boost your sales later in the future once you’re up and running.

The second method you can use to sell, which is the one I recommend is by finding your niche and building an audience around it. This is often known as content marketing or niche marketing.

What is Niche Marketing

Niche marketing involves choosing a particular subset of a particular market, building an audience or community by creating content around it, and then monetizing it.

For instance, if you know a lot about pets like dogs and cats, you can choose the pet niche and create content about pets. You’d have to create content to help pet owners take care of their pets such as how to groom their pets, potty training and more.

Creating such helpful content will help you attract many people who have pets and you can create a community through your content. As long as you know what you’re saying and your content is valuable and really helpful, you’ll be able to build a community in no time.

Selling to this kind of community is very easy, easier than paid ads, because your community is made up of people who know and trust you, who have consumed and benefited a lot from your content in the past and are willing to buy your products, if you recommend them.

The next question is:

How Do You Create Content?

There are several ways, methods and mediums you can use to create content and build a community online. You can do that through writing or blogging, through video content creation like starting a YouTube, and through Social Media.

Through Blogging

Creating a blog blog around your niche is very easy nowadays. You don’t need to know anything about coding. All you need to do is drag and drop different blocks of content and you’re done.

Once you’ve created the blog, all you need to do is post helpful articles and content around what you do in the blog and share them on social media like X or Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest, so you can get your first stream of traffic and attract people in your niche who are interested in that kind of content

YouTube

It’s similar with YouTube. If you’re more comfortable making videos, you can start a YouTube channel and create video content in your niche.

You’d need to create videos that will help people in your niche solve their everyday problems. For instance, in the pet niche, pet owners want to learn how to potty train their pets, they want to learn how to feed them, train them to listen to commands, groom them and so on.

As a video content creator in the pet niche, you can create this type of content on YouTube, helping people learn these skills and use it to better understand and handle their pets the right way. As your pet owners community grow on YouTube, you can recommend more useful products to them and sell your own products and services to your community.

The same tactics applies to all the different niches out there, not just the pet niche. You can use video content creation to grow a community, start selling and making money online.

Social Media

Almost everybody with a smart phone is in some type of social media platform or the other. There’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and many other social media platforms you can use to build an online community around your niche.

It all still resides around creating and sharing consistent valuable content in your niche. People will naturally follow you on social media if you’re providing some kind of value or providing some kind of solution to a problem or challenge they have.

If you’re consistent enough, you’ll be able to build an audience that follows you and buy products that you recommend.
