How Personal Branding Can Make You Rich
Building a personal brand can turn your life around. It can get you to places you never imagined you’d be. In fact, it can make you rich.
What does all your favorite celebrities have in common? Celebrities like CR7, Messi, Brad Pitt, Burna Boy, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Conor McGregor? What do they all have in common? – Personal brand. A familiar name.
A name that a large percentage of the world population know and trust. The name comes with a face, a face most people are excited to see, a familiar face that people trust and identify with.
The world did not just accept and trust these people for no reason. No. When you hear these names, you associate them with certain skill sets, certain values and traits that differentiate them and makes them standout from every other person.
You know, trust and identify with these people because they have shown themselves to have these skills, traits and values that you yourself are interested in.
If you love football, you automatically love good footballers. You love, adore, and admire professional footballers that are adept at what they do.
People like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, David Beckamp, and so many other celebrity footballers out there today are celebrities, because when you hear those names, you immediately associate them with good football.
That’s what a personal brand is all about. It’s about showing the world who you are through a special lens that only reveals a particular set of skills that you possess.
Personal branding involves portraying yourself in a certain light to the world. The whole purpose is to turn yourself and the skills you have into a business. It’s about marketing yourself and your skills to the world.
It’s about creating an avatar of yourself and selling this avatar to the world. So that, whenever people hear your name, they associate you with your avatar, just like people immediately associate Cristiano Ronaldo to football and Ed Sheeran To Music.
If you do it properly, you end up turning yourself into a one person brand, a personal brand, a one person business that makes you money, till you inhale your last breath. And if you do it really well, your name and brand continue to make money long after you’re gone.
How to turn yourself into a personal brand
Yes, most of the celebrities I mentioned above have a huge team behind them, an organization that promotes them and helps them become these powerful personal brands you hear of.
So, the question is, is it possible for you to turn yourself into a personal brand? The answer to that question is yes. You can turn yourself into a personal brand.
So many people have done it. Most of the influencers, YouTubers, bloggers and so on turn themselves into successful personal brands with no team behind them.
In fact, look at some of the people you follow on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and other social media platforms. If you look back to when they started, they were doing it all alone.
So, if they can do it, you can do it too. The following are the steps you must take to turn yourself into a successful personal brand.
Identify a particular skill set you know you have
You have to really have this skill, or be ready to build or develop this skill in public along with everybody else. It’s something you want people to identify you with. Something that will be synonymous with your name.
When I talk about skill, it doesn’t have to be a physical skill like football skills, or boxing skills. It can be speaking skills, design skills, art skills, sewing skills, repair skills and so on. Anything you want people to identify you with, and you’re sure you have or are in the process of acquiring.
Showcase this skill using the internet/social media
The internet and social media to be precise has made it very easy for anyone from anywhere to get their message across millions or even billions of people.
Building a personal brand now is as easy as creating pages on all your social media platforms of choice like Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok, Linkedin, and posting content regularly on these platforms.
It’s all about sharing knowledge about what you can do. You are on social media already, and you see people doing this.
It’s not going to be easy at first, but if you keep doing it and building your personal brand, the results is very rewarding.
With a large enough audience following you, apart having the means to share your message across a large number of people in a very short period of time, you can monetize this audience, and it can even be a ticket for you to meet certain people you wouldn’t have been able to meet, if you didn’t have a large personal brand on online.
How to make money with a personal brand
With a large enough audience, you stand to make a lot of money as a personal brand or as a one person business.
First:
You can make and sell your own products
Making and selling your own products is the easiest and most lucrative way to make money as a one person business.
If you’ve built a personal brand around fitness for instance, you can start selling your own fitness products. If you sing really well, and you’ve built a personal brand around music, you can start performing in shows all around your country or even the world. Like I said, social media and personal branding can make you money and take you places you’ve never been before.
Sponsorships
Trust me, the moment you build a large enough audience online, other brands will start reaching out to you for sponsorships. Especially brands related to your own brand.
For instance, if you’ve build a personal brand around DIY, woodworking and things like that, power tool companies that sell power tools used for DIY will reach out to you to advertise and sponsor some of your content.
If you’ve built a personal brand around food, food and beverage companies will reach out to you to sponsor your content and promote their business. You get paid, and you put their product before your audience. It’s a win-win situation for you and them.
These are just a few ways you can make money from building a personal brand or a one person business
Conclusion – The future belongs to personal brand owners
It really doesn’t matter whether you don’t have a large work force or support behind you right now. As long as you have access to the internet, and a skill to showcase, you can build a personal brand, and make a solid living out of it.
All you need is the ability to write about what you think, just as I’m doing on this blog, post about what you think on social media, display your skills, your believes, grow an audience of people interested in that same stuff you’re interested in, and you stand to gain opportunities beyond your widest imagination.
And the thing is, you don’t even have to build a very large personal brand like some of the famous people you see on social media before you start making money and getting these opportunities. Even a very small personal brand, a small targeted audience can turn your life around.
I’ve seen it, I’ve done it, and I think you can do it too.
