It’s so easy for people to get distracted nowadays from their goals in life. So easy.

Too many times we see very promising people in various areas of life, in school, in sports, in business and all other aspects of life get their life totally derailed.

And it’s all because of one reason. They got distracted.

Distraction in any area of life can be very disastrous. Take when you’re driving, and you’re distracted, maybe you’re on your phone talking with someone over the phone, or you simply tried to check and reply to a message while you’re driving.

The result can be very disastrous, and it’s all because of distraction. You got distracted from what you should be focused on, which is driving.

People have lost their limbs, and some their lives just because of this. Distraction.

Distraction on the road is one thing. There’s one even more deadly, which is distraction in life.

While on the road towards your goals in life so many things are bound to distract you and derail you from getting and achieving those goals.

Here are some of the major distractions you must watch out for.

Social media

Social media can be very good for us. It can help us build and grow connections, and even help us make money, but in the wrong hands, it’s one of the biggest and most potent distractive force wrecking havoc on millions of lives right now.

If you don’t curb your social media intake, and regulate how you use it, it can take over your whole life.

A bad social media use habit is like a parasite that lives in your mind, and sucks away from you, the most valuable resource you have at your disposal – Time. Time is the most valuable resource you have in life. And if you’re not careful, you’ll spend it all with your face glued to Facebook, X – Twitter, YouTube, Tik-Tok and so on.

You spend all your time just scrolling through these social media platforms, from one video to the next, one skit to the next, one gossip to the next, before you know it, you’re spending every ounce of time you have on the internet doing nothing, but listen to garbage.

The only result you get from this is that you end up wasting your whole life glued to your phone, when you should be out there experiencing the world and pursuing real goals that have real effect on your life and the life of those that are close to you.

Social media on it’s own is not a bad thing, just like water is not a bad thing. But too much of it can drown you and waste your whole life if you’re not careful.

I’m not advocating for people to avoid social media. I use social media myself, but mainly for brand building, business and the occasional communication with friends and family.

Before now, I use to catch myself watching videos, shorts on Facebook and YouTube for 3 – 4 hours straight. Maybe even more. But once I realized how much this is taking from the quality of my life, I learned to put social media in its place, which is a tool for growing connections and business.

Bad relationships

People can also turn out to be major distractions in our life, if we’re not careful. From family members, friends, to even people we’re in love with. The partners we choose to spend our life with.

They can all turn out to be our biggest time wasters if we’re not careful and not watch out for the kind of effect these people have in our lives.

There are people you have in your life that encourage and push you towards your goals, while there are others that are there just there because of what they gain from you.

These people are more like parasites. They take from you, but they don’t add anything meaningful and supportive to you.

If you care about achieving a particular goal so much, you must be around those that care about that same goal you care about, and are willing to support you in that direction.

If you want to be an excellent computer programmer, it’s important that you spend time with other people who are on the same path.

You can’t be an excellent programmer, if all your friends, are only interested in going to the club, partying, drinking and having fun.

You’re never ever going to have time for that which you truly care about, if all the people around you are not on the same path as you.

They’re just going to be very big distractions, rather than people that spur you towards what you truly want in your life.

Alcohol and drug abuse

When you take substances that makes you lose control of your body, your mind and senses, you also lose focus.

It’s like you’re trying to take a picture with a camera that’s out of focus, or that has a dirty lens. The image becomes blurry, because the camera is not functioning properly, it’s out of focus.

Alcohol is something I’ve personally abused, and it’s something I’m still struggling with till date. So, I understand the kind of effect it has on the mind.

When you get intoxicated with it, you lose who you truly are. As much as it’s hard to say, I’ll say this, and it’s the truth. A drunk person is the most foolish person in the room.

When you’re drunk, you think you’re acting right, but you’re not. You lose touch with all your senses and all your calibrations go whack.

You lose the ability to control yourself, and as a result, you say and do things that you later regret when you finally get back to your senses.

Abusing alcohol and drugs will derail your life. It will distract you from pursuing your goals.

People who drink a lot sleep a lot. Like, a lot. And nothing is slows down your progress more than sleeping when you should be working.

I know what I’m talking about because I’ve been this guy. I’ve been there. And it’s a place you don’t want to be if you truly care about being the person you aim to be in the future.

If you want to stay focused and hit the goals you set in your life, then you must loose the alcohol. You must loose the drugs.
