So, you’ve finally decided you want to start creating content online. But right now, you’re in that situation where you’re trying to decide what to create content about.

There’s one word we call that. Niche. What you create content about is called your niche. Your niche is the main topic of your content.
So, in this article, I’ll be talking about how you can choose your niche. I’m going to help you decide what to create content about.
Choosing the right niche is very important. It’s very important because it’s going to determine whether you continue creating content in the long run or not. You might ask, why is that?
Because if you choose a niche that you’re not really interested in, that you’re not passionate about, after some time you’ll lose interest in it because you’ll get bored writing about it. It will feel like a job you hate so much, and you wouldn’t want to do it anymore.
The famous Chinese philosopher Kong Fuzi, also known as Confucius once said, and I quote: “find a job you love doing, and you’ll never work a day in your life”. That means, if you love your job, you won’t see it as a job, and you would want to do it, every chance you get.
It’s the same thing with choosing a niche or a topic for online content creation. If you choose something you’re not passionate about, after some time you’re going to hate talking about it, and it will be very difficult for you to come up with ideas to talk about.
Create Content About Your Job
Now, the first thing I recommend people talk about or create content about, is their job. What are you doing for a living right now? Is it something you can create content about? Are you a banker, are you a fitness coach, are you a woodworker?
What do you do for a living right now? If it’s something you’re passionate about, then that’s a very good topic to create content about. That’s a very good niche to go into.
If you’re a fitness trainer, you can start creating content about fitness or about your job as a fitness trainer. There’re so many people out there who are interested in fitness, and would like to get fit. You can easily attract them and build a following online when you create content about fitness.
And the good thing about it is that, because it’s your job, you can easily create content about it, because it’s something you do everyday.
There many content creators online, that create content about their job. Examples include: Joma Tech who’s a software engineer and creates content about tech, There’s Nischa who’s an accountant and creates content about personal finance and business, thewoodwhisperer is a woodworker and creates content about woodworking, Vanessa @Girlwiththedogs is a dog groomer and she creates content about dog grooming.
The list just goes on.
These creators love their job so much that they create content about it to help other people interested in that field. And the cool thing about this is, when you create content about your job, it’s not just the people in that field that watches or consumes the content. Depending on how you create it, many other people watch as well.
For instance, I’m not a software engineer, and I’m not looking to be one, but I enjoy watching Joma Tech on YouTube because he presents his content in a fun comic way that I really enjoy, plus I learn a few things from him about creating content online.
So, if you have a job you really like and enjoy talking about, you can start creating content about it. You can use your content to connect with other like-minded people and use it to grow your business, use it to grow your brand further, and make money online.
Create Content About Your Hobbies and Passion
Now, the next question is, what if you don’t have a job right now, or what if you hate your job and you don’t want to create content about it? What should you create content about then? Well, the answer to that is, create content about what you love, what you’re passionate about. Create content about your hobby. About something you can talk about for a long time without getting bored to death.
That’s what you want to create content about. So, for instance, if you love carrying out DIY woodworking projects in your spare time, why not create content about it? If you like fitness and you go to the gym regularly, why not create content about fitness? If you love cooking, and always find yourself in the kitchen cooking up some new recipe, why not create content about food?
It’s as easy as that. When your content is all about what you love, about your passion, about your hobby, it will never feel like a job to you. You’ll never get tired of talking about it. You’ll live and breath it. And just like Confucious said, you’ll never work a day in your life.
